Venus Williams at fault in fatal car crash

The former no.1 has been involved in a nasty episode

Venus Williams is having a horrible time after being involved in a fatal car crash in Florida.

What happened

According to the local police, the former world no.1 violated the right of way of the other vehicle causing the accident the 9th of June.

Venus was driving a 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV, and at an intersection in Palm Beach Gardens she entered a six-lane intersection with a green light, but she was stopped midpoint by some traffic. When she tried to clear the intersection, Venus crashed with a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by Linda Barson that was unable to stop the car. Her husband (78-year-old) sustained a head trauma, and he died after two weeks at the hospital.  Also, Mrs. Barson was hospitalized, but she survived.

Apparently, Venus was driving extremely slowly (5 mph).

Mrs. Barson’s attorney statement

“Mrs. Barson is suffering intense grief and doesn’t know how she will go on,” said Michael Steinger, Linda Barson’s attorney. “Her husband of 35 years was struck by Venus Williams, who was at fault in a car accident, which ultimately resulted in Mr. Barson being hospitalized 14 days with multiple surgeries which resulted in his death.”

Venus’ attorney

Williams’ attorney Malcolm Cunningham released the following statement to the CNN

“Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at five mph when Mrs. Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations. This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”

Unlucky.
