ATP Ranking. It’s official: Rafa is the new world no.1!

Seismic changes in the ATP rankings after the tournaments in Beijing and Japan

Rafa world no.1

The most notable change was Rafa finally getting the top rank. The Spaniard had “just” to reach the final, but that wasn’t easy as the new world no.1 wasn’t in great form in Beijing to struggle with Fognini in the quarters and to be demolished by a hungrier Djokovic in the final.

Since Rafa doesn’t need to defend any point till the end of the Australian Open and Nole has a wealth of points to defend, Nadal is expected to be at the top of the rankings for a long long time (at least 6 months).

Roger

It is getting worse and worse for the Maestro. Federer decided not to play last week and the other players took full advantage from it. Now Del Potro did overtake Federer and Roger sinks to a terrible world no.7.

Delpo

Super Del Potro wins his 3rd title of the season in Tokyo and he leaps frog Berdych and Federer to be the world no.5. A new threat to the Big 4… ehm Big 2?

Dimitrov

Without really doing much Grigor goes 1 place up to be world no.27 (1 shy from his career high). Grigor comes from 3 consecutive losses and now he has a good draw in Shanghai. He has Nishikori in the first round and he is in the same quarter of Tsonga and Ferrer (both not at their best). Time to step in Grigor!

The Biggest Gainer of the week: Guido Pella

The 23 years old is the biggest gainer of the week. Winning the Sao Paulo Challenger gave him the opportunity to climb 17 places and to break in once again in the top 100.
