Super Delpo triumphs in Tokyo

Amazing stuff from Juan Martin Del Potro that wins his 16th career title and the 3rd of the season.

The Argentine won a tough tournament to beat Baghdadis in 3 sets in the first round, then Berlocq, Dolgopolov in another 3 setter, a super Almagro with a double breaker and now a really good Raonic in the final.

The Final

That was a very close encounter with both players scoring 77 points, but Del Potro was better in the important moments. The Argentine maintained his cool for the entire match and that wasn’t easy especially against a Milos Raonic that blasted an astonishing 17 aces on 12 service games.

Finally it was the only break achieved by Del Potro in the 12th game to give the final to the world no.7.

Del Potro: It was a fantastic week for me

An elated Del Potro commented “I played really well in the last two games of the match, returning all of his first serves. It was a fantastic week for me as I played better and better with each match.”

Raonic

Milos had a great tournament not to concede a set and a single service game in the entire event, besides the last game. The Canadian showed that he has greatly improved from a mental and tactical point of view especially after hiring Ivan Ljubicic as the new coach.

Milos had an exceptional forthright. Reaching the final in Tokyo the week after winning in Bangkok… well that’s a very good stuff!
