Matteo Berrettini keeps struggling with his injuries. All sorts of issues have sidelined the Italian sensation for many months, but it looked like he was finally in decent form at the US Open.
Something horrible happened during his match against Arthur Rinderknech when Matteo badly twisted his ankle when trying to defend a set point on a 4-6, 3-5 scoreline. Unfortunately, Matteo collapsed, screaming in pain, and he had to be helped with a wheelchair.
We are waiting for the outcome of the upcoming tests, but unfortunately, a lesion is plausible. We wish him all the best.
