Monfils arrived early in Dubai to watch playing his girlfriend Elina Svitolina that lost in the semifinal against Belinda Bencic. In the Emirates, Gael defeated Marin Cilic in the first round 6-3 4-6 6-0.

Marcos got to the main draw in Dubai thanks to a wildcard. He was lucky to face another wildcard in the first round as he defeated the world no.218 Mohamed Safwat 4-6 6-3 6-4.
