The Bulgarian withdrew from the Mifel Tennis Open in Mexico after sustaining a leg injury during practice. Medical checks confirmed bursitis, forcing him to rest and recover.

On Instagram, Dimitrov explained the situation: “Unfortunately, here in Los Cabos on practice on Friday, I felt something uncomfortable in my leg, which prevented me from practice over the weekend. After medical checks, it shows I have bursitis, and therefore it’s been recommended to me that rest and recovery is my best option. I’m so sorry to the event, as I was really looking forward to play here with such amazing Mexican fans.”
Season struggles and missed opportunities
The injury comes at a difficult time. Dimitrov has alternated between ATP and Challenger events this year without notable success. His best run was at Wimbledon, where he reached the Round of 16, but elsewhere he has suffered early exits. At Masters tournaments, he lost in the first round in Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid, with only a second-round showing at Indian Wells.
Looking ahead to Canada and New York
If recovery goes well, Dimitrov hopes to return for the Canadian Open beginning August 2, a Masters event crucial for ranking points. His participation in the US Open, however, remains uncertain.

In a match against Dalibor Svrcina, he overruled the umpire and asked for a point to be replayed after doubting whether he had struck the ball cleanly.
