Paula Badosa was in tears after beating Daria Kasatkina in the third round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships because she had been struggling with a debilitating back injury that forced her retirement from Wimbledon in 2023 and shut down the remainder of her season. She also missed several tournaments and had to deal with mental health issues. Despite these setbacks, she worked hard to make a comeback and was emotional after achieving a significant victory that put her into Wimbledon’s second week for the third time in her career and first since her injury.
“A few months ago I didn’t know if I could play tennis anymore,” said Paula embarassed by her fighting tears.
A true testament to hard work and persistence 🙌
