The Russian professional Daniil Medvedev made it to the quarterfinals of his first clay tournament of the year. Medvedev defeated Alexander Bublik, his prominent opponent, in the Madrid Open Round of 16.

Medvedev Talking

Daniil Medvedev has advanced to the quarterfinals of his first clay tournament this year. In the Madrid Open Round of 16, the Russian won against his noteworthy opponent, Alexander Bublik.

The previous five confrontations between Medvedev and Bublik have always been tense and dramatic. Their sixth meeting was enjoyable from start to finish. Despite having a stronger start than the Russian, Bublik eventually lost the match as he exhibited signs of fatigue in the second set.

The 28-year-old won 7-6 (3) in the opening set, but the second set was much simpler for Medvedev. In an hour and forty-four minutes, he won 7-6 (3), 6-4, as he was in control of the match.

After the win, Medvedev acknowledged that although the match was difficult, everyone was tired, particularly his opponent, Bublik.

Medvedev expressed his thoughts about it and said: “Tough match. A lot of drop shots. I got so tired in the end running for them. That’s when you lose your concentration and play worse. After the match, he told me he was dead too. Good for me. At least I wasn’t the only one.”
