Isner comfirms that it was no by chance that he brought Nadal to the 5th set in the 2011 French Open and following his captain (Courier) advices, he manage to get the most prestigious victory in his carreer.
“I’m very proud of it,” Isner said. “I played those break points down very well. It turned the match a little for me.”
“Mardy put forth a great effort,” he said. “That was so gutsy. It took a lot of pressure off of me.”
“I thought he played great,” Federer commented. “He played it tough and served great when he had to. I just missed a couple more opportunities than he did and that’s what cost me the match.”
“It’s been a difficult day for us,” Federer said “We still have a chance to go through. I’m going to enjoy the challenge.”
This was the first Davis Cup loss for Federer in 8 years.
In the previsou match Mardy fish had a tough and complicated victory vs. Wawrinka in 5 long sets 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 9-7. Fish was 1-2 sets down and missed an important match point. Then the American managed to regroup to win an epic.
