Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari have already hit the headlines a couple of weeks ago for their entertaining performance at the Hopman Cup especially after they defeated Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic in an entertaining tie.

Stefanos and Maria are currently in Melbourne where they are going to try to go deep in the Australian Open. They received a warm welcome from the local Greek community that it is estimated to be of more than 150,000 people.

Tsitsipas and Sakkari had dinner with the community on Saturday, and the two tennis players were awarded as a symbolic gift with a didgeridoo, a traditional Aboriginal musical instrument, and a boomerang.

Consul Dimitris Michalopoulos, the president of the community Vasilis Papastergiadis were among the top personalities.

Stefanos will start his campaign in Melbourne on Monday against Matteo Berrettini while Maria will be opposed to Jelena Ostapenko.

I am one of the main columnists for Tennistonic.com. I have been writing about tennis for the last 4 years. My passion for tennis dates back since the days of the Marat Safin challenging Roger Federer. I am a decent club player, but I have never reached those heights 🙂 Interested in the nextgen. Favorite players: Tsitsipas, Shapovalov, Tiafoe, De Minaur, and Coric. Curious to see what it is going to be with Kyrgios even if I am starting to think that he is a lost cause.
