Three padel courts proposed for Ruthin multi-sport complex
Three covered outdoor padel courts could be added to an existing multi-sport hub in Ruthin under a new application lodged with Denbighshire County Council.
Padel View Ltd’s Mr and Mrs Tom and Amy Edmunds have submitted the scheme, which would see the courts constructed at the Llanfwrog Community Association complex on Mwrog Street.
The submission states that the development would bring a rapidly growing racket sport to the recreation ground and create 2 full-time jobs.
Plans to broaden Denbighshire’s recreation offering
A variety of sporting and community activities are already accommodated at the site. Its current facilities include:
| Facility type | Quantity / detail |
|---|---|
| Tennis courts | 6 courts |
| Golf driving range | 1 range |
| Foot golf course | 1 9-hole course |
| Youth and junior football pitches | 5 pitches |
| Bowling green | 1 crown green |
| Community amenities | Community hall and café |
Representatives supporting the application used the planning statement to underline the centre’s longstanding place in the local community.
The planning statement said: “The proposal forms part of the continued investment in an already well-established community sports and recreation complex which has developed over many years into one of Denbighshire’s principal destinations for organised sport, recreation, and community activities,”
Introducing the fast-growing sport on Mwrog Street would also help widen local participation, according to the statement.
The document added: “The application seeks to broaden the range of facilities available to existing users whilst attracting new participants to one of the fastest growing sports in the United Kingdom,”
Residents living nearby have not yet been consulted on the proposal. Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee is expected to assess the scheme at a future meeting at Ruthin County Hall.
