Modern padel courts bring historic venue back to life
Following a major renovation, Águila Club has reopened in El Puerto de Santa María and begun a new era. Closed and unused for several years, the traditional local meeting place has been transformed into a wide-ranging center focused on sports, health, and well-being.
The inaugural Pádel Xperience El Puerto de Santa María tournament, which opened the Pádel Xperience summer tour, served as the venue’s official launch event. El Puerto City Council’s Councilor for Sports, José Ignacio González Nieto, attended to award trophies in several categories and praise those responsible for restoring the complex.
“The restoration of sports facilities like Águila Club is excellent news for El Puerto, as it expands the range of spaces available for practicing sports and helps our city remain a leader in organizing sporting events and promoting healthy lifestyles,” González Nieto said during the opening ceremony.
Mayor Germán Beardo’s municipal administration had made restoring the long-inactive venue and returning it to service one of its objectives.
Modernized facilities support a varied sports program
Full Panoramic padel courts are among the main improvements delivered by the extensive modernization of the site, with their design intended to provide better visibility and higher-quality matches. They also use advanced sports turf developed to improve performance, absorb impacts on players, and lower injury risk.
For its first event, the complex hosted competition in 5 separate categories:
| Category | Format | Competition stage |
|---|---|---|
| Category A | Group stage and knockout bracket | Pádel Xperience summer tour |
| Category B | Group stage and knockout bracket | Pádel Xperience summer tour |
| Category C | Group stage and knockout bracket | Pádel Xperience summer tour |
| Women’s | Group stage and knockout bracket | Pádel Xperience summer tour |
| Mixed | Group stage and knockout bracket | Pádel Xperience summer tour |
The complex’s activities extend beyond competitive padel to include padel and football schools, standard padel court hire, 7-a-side and 11-a-side football pitches, and a specialist Pilates Reformer studio. Its sports program is set to expand in September with Hyrox Training, Mat Pilates, and Functional Training.
