Know more about Berrettini's tennis career and family

Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini is an Italian player who was born on 12th April 1996. He had a career-high rank of 20 of the ATP singles which he achieved this year on 24th June 2019. On 22nd July 2019, Matteo also reached a career-high world no.105 for ATP doubles.

Berrettini started playing tennis at the age of seven during the same time when his little brother, Jacopo Berrettini, was also playing the game. Matteo admits that his younger brother’s constant requests to play tennis persuaded him to go ahead with the game. And when he started playing, he could not stop.

Berrettini made his main draw debut at the Italian Open after he earned a wildcard in the tournament’s pre-qualifying wildcard round in 2017. He may have lost in straight sets to Filippo Baldi but did turn out to be the top seed in the Italian field competing for the last spot.

The twenty-three-year-old defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the final match and won the Swiss Open Gstaad. He went on to earn his very first ATP doubles as well, during the same event with partnering compatriot Daniele Bracciali.

This year he won the titles at the Hungarian Open and at the Bavarian International Tennis Championships in Stuttgart. Later, not only did the twenty-three-year-old reached the Halle Open’s 500th semi-final but also as the seventeenth seed, entered the second week of Wimbledon.

Who is Berrettini’s girlfriend?

Berrettini used to date Lavinia Lancellotti, but apparently the relationship ended. There are some speculations on the web that the Italian had a thing with Genie Bouchard (not confirmed). According to reports, Nick Kyrgios’ former girlfriend  Ajla Tomljanovic may be dating the Italian. In fact, Ajla was seen in Matteo’s box at the US Open and probably during his match against Diego Schwartzman in Wimbledon.

Currently, at the US Open, he has reached his first major quarter-final, defeating Andrey Rublev and will face the Frenchman Gael Monfils in the Arthur Ashe stadium today. He had made to the quarter-finals of the tournament and is delighted with the fact that he has reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. He said:

“It’s something really crazy. I cannot believe it right now. I need a few hours to understand what happened,” Berrettini said during his on-court interview, per the AFP. “I’m just happy. Seeing my team and family here and crying, for me it’s unbelievable.”
