Juan Carlos Ferrero has spoken publicly about his decision to unfollow Carlos Alcaraz on social media following their professional split. Appearing on the Spanish TV show El Cafelito, Ferrero clarified that the move was not out of resentment but rather a way to create distance after seven years of working together.
Seven years of success
Ferrero and Alcaraz’s partnership produced remarkable results, including 24 ATP titles, four Grand Slam victories, and the World No. 1 ranking. Their collaboration was one of the most successful in recent tennis history, but philosophical differences led to their separation in December 2025.
Ferrero’s explanation
Ferrero explained his reasoning during the interview. “I don’t follow him because I need a little bit of time, to separate. Because at the same time, if I see Instagram, he pops up everywhere. In the end, I haven’t achieved anything. You follow tennis accounts and tournaments, and it’s the same thing,” he said.
He added that the decision was not motivated by anger. “I didn’t do it out of spite. I want to see him and give him a hug. Normalize everything that’s happened—I think there’s a conversation still pending. I’d like that,” Ferrero continued.
Alcaraz thriving after the split
Since parting ways, Alcaraz has continued to excel on the ATP Tour. Entering Indian Wells in 2026, he remains unbeaten with a 12-0 record as the tournament’s top seed. Ferrero hinted that more details about their split will be shared in a full interview scheduled for Thursday.
The comments highlight Ferrero’s respect for Alcaraz despite their separation, leaving open the possibility of reconciliation on a personal level even as their professional paths diverge.
