De Minaur did something that even Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal couldn’t do

DE MINAUR SERVING IN ATLANTA

At 20 years of age, Alex De Minaur has just won his 2nd career title in Atlanta after beating Taylor Fritz 6-3 7-6 (2) in the final.

This was a huge feat for the upcoming Australian that was really struggling with his results after he conquered his first title in Sydney.

De Minaur’s serve

Alex is well known for his incredible determination and “hyper-speed” on court. However, in Georgia, the young Australian impressed for 1 specific shot: his serve. Interesting enough, Reilly Opelka, 6 feet 11 inches (2.11 mt), was surprised by De Minaur’s serve when they played in the semifinal and eventually the Aussie managed to win the tournament without conceding a single break point!

Only 2 players managed to achieve the same feat and that happened to Tommy Haas  (Memphis 2007) and John Isner (Newport 2017). That means that Alex managed to do what the big3 (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic) couldn’t even if they won 259 tournaments combined.

Why De Minaur was so happy

Alex also lost just 7 points on his first serve during the entire tournament. The Australian commented:

“This one is really special to me. I felt like I really needed this. To start the year with a bang and then be slowed down by injuries. You expect your level to be right there once you come back, but you have to slowly grind your way back.

I’ve been playing great tennis and felt like if I could keep it all together, the good results will come. This is a week that will really help me out.”
