Alex De Minaur survives Taylor Harry Fritz 6-3 7-62 in the final in Atlanta on Sunday after conquering a huge battle to claim his 2nd career title.

Score, report, and key facts

1st set.

Alex won the set after he broke the American in the 7th (4-3) and in the 9th (6-3) game. That was enough for Alex to win the set because he didn’t concede his serve during the rest of the set.

Taylor was completely knocked out in the last 4 games of the set (from 2-3 to 6-3).

2nd set.

Nothing could divide these 2 players that had to fight for the set only at the tiebreak. Eventually, the Australian won the tiebreak at 2.

At the end of the match, De Minaur scored 66 points vs. Fritz’s 51 points.

The Australian served pretty well to win 94% of the points (29/31) behind his first serve, and he won 65% points (15/23) on his second serve. Alex was pretty effective in converting 50% of the break points that he conquered (2/4). On the other side, Fritz wasn’t able to conquer any break point. That was one of the key issues for his defeat.

After this encounter, the head to head between De Minaur and Fritz is 2-0 for Alex.

De Minaur’s Interview

After the match, Alex commented “This one is really special to me. I felt like I really needed this. To start the year with a bang and then be slowed down by injuries… you expect your level to be right there once you come back, but you have to slowly grind your way back.

I’ve been playing great tennis and felt like if I could keep it all together, the good results will come. This is a week that will really help me out.”
