What a day in Rome!
After the rain wiped out the entire schedule on Wednesday most of the players had to compete twice in a super packed Thursday. There was so much action that was extremely difficult to follow everything. Here what happened with the big 3.
Novak Djokovic
Nole was in great form to concede just 7 games in 2 matches after defeating Denis Shapovalov 6-1 6-3 and Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3 6-0. The world no.1 is now in the quarters, and he has not lost a set since Monte Carlo. The Serbian sensation will face Juan Martin Del Porto in the quarters. The head to head is 15-4 for Nole that leads 3-0 on clay.
Rafael Nadal
If Djokovic was great Rafa was just unbelievable. The Spanish sensation conceded 2 games in 2 matches after trashing Jeremy Chardy 6-0 6-1 (67 minutes) and Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-1 6-0 (62 minutes).
Rafa will face Fernando Verdasco in the quarter that impressed after beating Dominic Thiem 6-4 4-6 7-5 in 2 hours and 43 minutes and Karen Khachanov 7-5 3-6 6-3 in 2 hours and 9 minutes. The head to head is 16-3 for Nadal (7-1 on clay, but 7-0 on red clay).
Roger Federer
Roger had an incredible day. After dismissing Joao Sousa in the opening match 6-4 6-3 in 80 minutes, the Swiss sensation won an incredible match against Borna Coric 2-6 6-4 7-6 (7) after saving 2 match points when he was 4-6 down in the final tiebreak.
Roger will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarters. The Greek had an excellent run on Thursday after he dismissed 2 Italians. Before he beat the upcoming Jannik Sinner 6-3 6-2, and then he defeated Fabio Fognini 6-4 6-3. The head to head is 1-all, but they have never played on clay so far.
