Bencic beats Osaka to book a place in the semifinals in Madrid

Bencic beats Osaka to reach semifinals

Belinda Bencic has beaten the world no.1 Naomi Osaka 3-6 6-2 7-5 to reach the semifinals in Madrid. This the 2nd time that Bencic has beaten her in 2019.

The Match

In the first set, Osaka broke Bencic in the 4th game (3-1) but Bencic came back strong to break Osaka in the next game (3-2). Osaka again broke Bencic serve in the 8th game (5-3) and held her serve to win the set 6-3.

The second set was easy for Bencic, she broke Osaka serve thrice in the set to win the set 6-2.

Osaka had a great chance to win the match but she missed it when she failed to serve out when leading 5-4 in the third set. She was broken at love in that game and then lost 2 consecutive games to lose the match.

Bencic won the match 3-6 6-2 7-5 in 2 hours 11 minutes.

Osaka will lose the world no.1 rank if Halep wins the tournament.

Bencic will now face Halep in the semifinals. Bencic has a 2-1 head to head record against Halep. They have not faced each other on clay.
