Federer happy in Perth

Roger Federer plays an outstanding match against Cameron Norrie in the Hopman Cup opener.

The world no.3 looked absolutely in tune with his tennis to demolish his opponent in just 57 minutes 6-1 6-1. Roger also had the opportunity to bagel (6-0) his opponent in the first set when he had 2 set points when leading 5-0, but the Brit managed to hold his serve.

The Swiss legend was so much better than Norrie that for once the crowd was even backing the Brit that looked hopeless against the Maestro.

Soon after the match, Roger commented

“I’m ready to go.

This was a great start, but we’ve got a long, long way to go here and in Melbourne.

It’s nice that I’m feeling as good as I am and I played a wonderful match against Cameron who I thought also played a great match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, so that was quality tennis tonight.”

Later on, Belinda Bencic completed the job to beat Katie Boulter 6-2 7-6 (0) to give the decisive 2-0 lead to her team. Later on, Team Switzerland won also the mixed doubles 4-3 4-1 to complete a perfect day.

Roger and Belinda will face team USA the 1st at 5.30pm local time. This will be a very interesting tie especially if they go to the decisive mixed doubles. In that case, we would have the opportunity to see Federer against Serena Williams.
