Roger Federer recalls Novak Djokovic’s remarkable record in 2011 with 43-match winning streak

Novak Djokovic made a spectacular start to the 2011 season with the hopes of extending his amazing winning streak at the French Open. The Serbs' hopes were dashed by Roger Federer in an exciting semifinal match.

Djokovic And Federer

Novak Djokovic began the 2011 season with a bang, hoping to continue his incredible winning run at the French Open. However, Roger Federer crushed the Serbs’ dreams in a thrilling semifinal match.

The Serbian started the French Open as the second seed after victories at the start of the season in Melbourne, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami, Belgrade, Madrid, and Rome. He overcame players like Richard Gasquet, Juan Martin del Potro, and Victor Hanescu to set up a much-awaited semifinal matchup with Federer.

The Swiss defeated Djokovic 7-6(5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5) to claim his spot against Nadal in the final round for the title. This ended Djokovic’s 43-match winning streak that dated back to the 2010 Davis Cup Finals and his perfect 41-0 start to the season.

Federer praised the Serb for an outstanding effort under extreme pressure and attributed the victory to his extensive training.

Federer said: “I’ve trained a lot during my whole life for these kinds of matches. There was an enormous amount of pressure on Novak, and he played well.”

Federer expressed his remarks about Djokovic’s record at that time and said: “What I would like to say, and I said it to him at the net, is that his record, although it’s not the best because other players have done better—today it’s so physical and professional—what he achieved is unbelievable.”
