Stefanos Tsitsipas wins an excellent match in Stockholm on Friday against Philipp Kohlschreiber to reach the semifinal.

The match

Stefanos looked to be in the right mind frame from the very beginning to conquer a very important break already in the 4th game of the opening set (3-1). That was enough to the 20-year-old to win the 1st set 6-3 after dropping just 6 points on serve.

The second set was much tougher than the first one after the German conquered an important break in the 2nd game (2-0) before consolidating his lead (3-0). Even if Tsitsipas looked much less solid on his serve (also because Kohlschreiber was returning pretty well), the Greek wasn’t broken anymore. After saving 2 consecutive set points on serve when he was 2-5 15-40 down, Tsitsipas won a crucial break in the 9th game (4-5) after Philipp didn’t succeed in serving out the set. The affair went to the breaker that the Greek won at 3. The final result was 6-3 7-6 (3) and the match ended after 1 hour and 36 minutes.

I have shown character and passion. TSITSIPAS

In the interview following the match, Stefanos commented

“I showed character and a bit more passion for every shot that I played. When I was a break down I concentrated hard. I played rallies and waited for an opportunity and put pressure on him to finish the points. In general, I was calm and I served pretty well today – much better than my first-round match. I’d like to push more and get more points in the next few weeks.”

The semifinal against Fognini

Stefanos will face the world no.14 and seed no.2 Fabio Fognini in the semifinal. They have never played each other so far.
