“I focus on the beauties of life” – said Tsitsipas after being upset in Madrid

The first major upset of the season happened quite quickly, and the Mutua Madrid Open is off to a tremendous start. Greek professional Stefanos Tsitsipas lost to his opponent in the opening round of the Madrid Open.

Tsitsipas Upset In Madrid

The Mutua Madrid Open is off to a great start, and the season’s first big shock occurred very quickly. At the Madrid Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated by his opponent in the first round.

The Greek player entered the match with all the momentum, facing off against Thiago Monteiro. Tsitsipas was also one of Madrid’s favourites because of his strong clay court record and two straight final appearances under his belt. Nobody anticipated it to be the season’s biggest upset, though.

Tsitsipas was taken aback by the Brazilian’s reliability, especially as he was riding a 10-1 run before this. He gave his opponent credit for his continued composure and impressive first-serve percentage. Tsitsipas kept his attention on life’s beauties while simultaneously coming to terms with his loss. He conceded that his lack of preparation ultimately led to a defeat.

Tsitsipas expressed his thoughts about it and said: “I have had a very good rival on the other side of the net. He has made great shots and has punished me every time I have played short. I have not been able to have depth on the court. He has played very aggressively and very persistently, with a very high percentage of firsts. I would have liked to subtract, like in the last game. I felt out of rhythm from the rest throughout the match; my body was going in all directions. I would simply like to congratulate my opponent. I have nothing to say about myself; that’s tennis.”

He added: “I just focus on the beauties in life. Tennis is there. I play tennis every day. I feel grateful to have the opportunity to go out on the court and play. There will be a lot of days like this, I hope, in the coming 15 years of my career. It’s not a great feeling, that’s for sure, but I have to accept it and move on. Maybe I wasn’t 100% prepared for this match and my opponent brought home the victory.”
