“That’s the lesson,” says Raducanu after losing to Sasnovich in Indian Wells

This is how Emma Raducanu reacted to losing her first match in Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS. Emma Raducanu had finally the opportunity to play her first match after winning the US Open. However, things did not go that well for the new British sensation, who lost in the second round at the hands of Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Emma had a great start after winning the first 6 points. However, it was clear that she was extremely nervous, probably struggling with all the sudden attention that came following her triumph in New York. After losing the first set 6-2, Raducanu bounced back in the second set to grab a 4-2 lead. However, she lost the following 4 games to be defeated 6-2 6-4.

Press conference

During the press conference that followed her match, Emma looked quite upset by the result. However, she is still aware that she has limited experience playing at top. Raducanu commented:

“I think it’s going to take me time to adjust really to what’s going on. I mean, I’m still so new to everything. Like the experiences that I’m going through right now, even though I might not feel 100 per cent amazing right now, I know they’re for the greater good.

For the bigger picture. I’ll be thanking this moment. So, that’s the lesson I think, that you can easily get sucked into being so focused on the result and getting disappointed.

I mean, I’m 18 years old. I need to cut myself some slack. I’m still very, very new to the tour. I think that experience just comes from playing week in, week out and experiencing all these different things.”

The schedules

Emma is scheduled to play next up in Saint Petersburg before competing in Romania and Linz. At this point, it is quite improbable that Raducanu will qualify for the WTA finals in Guadalajara.
