Humble Raducanu explains why she is not the Australian Open favorite

Emma Raducanu explains why she feels she needs much more time to be a slam favorite

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu attracted the attention of tennis fans all over the world after winning the US Open title coming straight from the qualifications. Emma conquered her maiden slam title without dropping a single set in 10 matches.

There is a massive trust in Raducanu’s chance to win the Australian Open after New York. Fortunately, Emma remains grounded, and she said that she doesn’t think she will be the favorite to win the first slam of the year.

The young Brit is very well aware that she is entirely new to the WTA tour and therefore, she needs to understand many more things before being a consolidated “multi-slam-winner.”

During a Lawn Tennis Association event, Raducanu commented:

“If I’m seeded [at the Australian Open], then I’m seeded, but favorite? I think one tournament, you can’t really say I’m a favorite. I’m still so new to everything.

I just feel like I’m learning and absorbing all the knowledge that I’m gaining like a sponge and soaking it all in. That’s what I really want to do. I’m not focused on results, I’m focused on how much I can learn because that’s what’s really going to drive me forward.”

The new coach

Emma is so aware that she has so much to learn that she decided to part ways with her coach despite their US Open title. Raducanu thinks that she needs to have a coach who has already good experience at the WTA level.
