EXPLAINED. Why Raducanu split with her coach after winning the US Open

Emma Raducanu gives her explanation on why she decided to change her coach just a couple of weeks after she won the US Open

Emma Raducanu And Her Coach

Emma Raducanu conquered US Open after winning 10 consecutive matches and without dropping a single set. Emma has been going through a rather turbulent year in terms of coach changes.

Coaching roulette

The 18-year-old used to be coached by Nigel Sears, Andy Murray’s father-in-law, during Wimbledon. Then she split with Nigel to partner with Andrew Richardson, who used to coach Emma for a couple of years since she was 11. However, Emma feels that she needs to have a coach with more experience on tour.

What Raducanu said

Emma commented:

“After Wimbledon, I was ranked around 200 in the world. And, at the time I thought Andrew would be a great coach to try and I went to the States. Never did I even dream of winning the US Open and having the run I did, and now I’m ranked 22 in the world which is pretty crazy to me.

It’s tough to have that conversation with anyone, but I need someone who’s had that professional tour experience, and has been through it, and seen players in my situation for many years, going through the same because it’s going to take a lot.”
