Roger Federer is still playing tennis at the highest level. The tennis superstar has had a long and successful career. He is playing at the Australian Open this month as he bids to become the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title. Federer won his second-round match on Wednesday, with his biggest fan Mirka cheering him on.
Federer easily wins his second-round match
Federer outclassed Filip Krajinovic in the second round of the tournament, winning the match in straight sets. Despite concerns over his fitness, the Swiss player looked sharp during the match. The Swiss last played competitively at the London ATP Finals. He did not play for Switzerland at the ATP Cup earlier this month. Speaking after the match, Roger said he felt sorry for his opponent for playing a match the previous day in qualifying. “It wasn’t 100 percent fair that he played five sets yesterday and I zero.”
Mirka Federer still cheers wildly during matches
During the match, Federer’s wife, Mirka, sent social media users into a frenzy after she was captured cheering and taking pictures of her husband during the match. Fans praised her for her enthusiasm despite her husband’s many previous victories. Even after close to 20 years of following her husband’s career, fans were amazed that she was still happy to see him succeed. It wasn’t the first time that she has been spotted cheering for her husband. At last year’s Wimbledon final, she sat pensively as the match between the world No.3 and Novak Djokovic played out. Federer lost the match in heartbreaking fashion. The former world number one failed to convert two match points, allowing Djokovic to win the match.
Mirka and her four children traveled with Roger to Australia to support him during the tournament. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has insisted that his family will make the final decision on when he can retire. He has increasingly managed his schedule over the past few years, selecting his tournaments carefully as he tries to balance his playing career and his family life. However, it seems that he has the full support of Mirka to keep playing. The Swiss will face John Millman in the third round on Friday. The 20-time Grand Slam champion holds a 2-1 winning record over the Australian. Millman’s victory came in the round of 16 at the 2018 US Open. Federer will have to be at the top of his game to avoid another upset by the 30-year-old player.
That after 1000+ match wins, Mirka still took photos and videos of Roger using cell phone during his on court interview like all we fans is just 🥺💓#AusOpen (Getty) pic.twitter.com/emNpVN2LqL
