Taylor Fritz moved into the third round of Wimbledon 2026 after defeating compatriot Patrick Kypson in three sets. The American admitted there was relief in closing out the match without being forced into a tiebreaker. “I was having a lot of chances and just felt like I needed to get that break. I’m really happy I was able to avoid going to a fourth and just get it done in three,” he said.
Finding rhythm without Eastbourne
Fritz explained that skipping his usual warm‑up tournament at Eastbourne made this year’s preparation feel different. “All my best results have always come here straight off the back of winning Eastbourne. I like that rhythm and confidence. Not coming in with that same rhythm was a bit weird, but it feels really good to get through the first two rounds in straight sets,” he commented.
A dramatic outfit change
The American also addressed the crowd’s reaction to his new pre‑match look. Walking onto court in NBA‑style trousers, he ripped them off before play began. “I’m a bit more low‑key, so it’s definitely something different for me. The first round I struggled to get the thing off, but I saw a video of Francis just going full rip off, so I tried to copy him today,” Fritz said with a laugh.
With his serve firing and confidence building, Fritz heads into the third round determined to continue his strong run. His mix of composure on court and playful personality off it has added extra flair to his Wimbledon campaign.
