The ATP Masters 1000 in Rome, scheduled from May 5 to 17 at the Foro Italico, will see notable absences. Taylor Fritz, Kamil Majchrzak, and Eliot Spizzirri have withdrawn from the tournament, altering the competitive landscape ahead of one of the most anticipated events on the calendar. Their absence opens opportunities for other players to step into the spotlight.
Spotlight on Italian hopes
Italian fans will once again flock to the capital for two weeks of high‑level tennis. Jannik Sinner, who reached the final last year, is aiming for his first triumph at the Internazionali d’Italia. The home contingent will be strong, with several Italians in the main draw and additional wild cards to be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
Sinner’s pursuit of history
Sinner’s run in 2025 ended in the final, but his current form has raised expectations. With the withdrawals of Fritz, Majchrzak, and Spizzirri, the draw may shift in his favor, though the field remains packed with world‑class talent. The Italian star is determined to deliver in front of his home crowd and secure a title that has so far eluded him.
Anticipation builds in Rome
The Foro Italico will once again serve as the stage for one of the premier clay‑court tournaments. Fans are expected to arrive in large numbers, creating an atmosphere that blends tradition with passion. The absence of key names adds intrigue, but the focus remains on the battles to come and the possibility of a historic breakthrough for Italy’s leading player.
Taylor Fritz in 2026
Ranked no.7, the American played his last match on the 24th of March when he capitulated to world no.14 Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-7(4) 6-2 in the 4th round in Miami (draw).
At the moment, during this season Fritz has achieved a composed 12-8 win-loss record. Taylor Fritz’s best accomplishment of the present season was reaching the final in Dallas.
