Shapovalov reaches the US Open 4th round

Denis Shapovalov keeps on rising!

The new Canadian sensation reaches the 4th round of the US Open after Kyle Edmund retires in the 4th set.

The match

Denis had some doubts only in the first part of the match when he immediately dropped his serve to trail on a 0-3 scoreline. Eventually, Denis got his break back (2-3), but he conceded another service game soon after (3-5) before losing the opener 6-3.

Things got much better for the Canadian later after he won the second set 6-3. Unfortunately, Kyle had a bad injury while serving in the third set (2-2); the Brit won that game (3-2), he called immediately for a medical time-out, but it was game over. Denis won the following 5 games, and Kyle had to withdraw on a 3-6 6-3 6-3 1-0 scoreline.

My back locked up. EDMUND

Soon after the match, Kyle commented

“It’s just the fact that it was such a horrible way to go out. It’s a tough thing to go on the biggest court in the world and feel a bit helpless, really. Do you carry on to the end? But you just go through the motions, and it’s a bit of a sorry state.

My back locked up and I couldn’t rotate properly. I knew that I wasn’t going to win two more sets feeling like that.”

Shapovalov will face Pablo Carreno-Busta in the 4th round. They have never played each other so far.
