Denis Shapovalov is getting better and better.
The upcoming Canadian has recently shined in Montreal where he reached the semifinal after beating Rafael Nadal on the way. Denis had to play the qualifications at the US Open, but eventually he reached the main draw before upsetting the seed no.8 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets in the second round.
The match
Denis impressed from the beginning after breaking Tsonga in the very first round before winning the opening set 6-4 without conceding anything to his opponent.
The script was similar in the second set when Denis never blinked on his serve, but he broke Tsonga in the 7th game (4-3) before winning the second set also 6-4.
Shapovalov broke Tsonga again in the 7th game of the third set (4-3), but then he had his first doubts when he was serving for the match 5-4, and he conceded his first service game (5-5). Eventually, the set went to the breaker that Denis won at 3.
The final result was 6-4 6-4 7-6 (3), and it was truly impressive how the Canadian handed the pressure of this big stage (the Arthur Ashe Stadium) and the disappointment of not being able to serve out the match.

Next vs. Edmund
Denis will face Edmund for a place in the 4th round. The head to head is 1-1. The Canadian is the obvious favorite to reach the 4th round.
