Why Federer was fantastic in defeat

Roger Federer is not only (arguably) the best tennis player in tennis history, but he is definitely one of the best sportsmen ever.

Roger seemed to be destined to win the title in Montreal against Alexander Zverev ahead of their final clash, but the German managed to beat his childhood hero also because the Maestro was struggling (big time) with his back especially in the second set. The final score was 6-3 6-4 for the 20-year-old, and Roger wasn’t shy in congratulating his conqueror soon after the match.

Why Roger was great.

After the match, Federer didn’t want to talk about his back, but on how good was Alexander. The Maestro commented

“It’s a wonderful achievement for him. I wish him the best for the coming months and hope he can finish the season very strong. I’m just really happy for him, to see that he’s taking everything not just to the next level, but the two next levels.”

And during the ceremony…

Roger has won the Rogers Cup twice, but both times in Toronto (never in Canada). Therefore during the ceremony, the Maestro said to Sascha “Maybe one day you can tell me how it feels to win Montreal.“

Roger’s touch.
