IMPRESSIVE Zverev edges Shapovalov

Sascha Zverev had another impressive performance in Montreal.

The German had to face Denis Shapovalov in Canada with the fans in full support of their home favorite. Sascha wasn’t impressive because of his tennis, but for his mental strength. He remained unfazed by the home crowd, and he was just focused on the match. The German was amazingly calm in the most crucial moment of the contest when after he won the first set, he was 3-4 0-40 down in the second. The 20-year-old found the maturity to remain calm and hold serve after winning 5  consecutive points. Finally, Sascha had to battle hard also when he was serving for the match on a 6-5 scoreline while he had to save 3 more break points. Finally, the German won the battle 6-3 7-5 after 1 hour and 43 minutes.

Shapovalov left the court among a well-deserved standing ovation.

What Zverev told to Shapovalov

Sascha disclosed what he said to Denis soon after the match

“I told him he had a great run, well done to him, to not worry too much that he lost today. I also told him that this is just the first match of very, very many that we will play against him. Hopefully a lot of other big matches, maybe in Grand Slams, maybe in finals of tournaments. I just told him that this is the beginning for him.”
