Vekic wins the title in Nottingham

Donna Vekic wins her 2nd career title in Nottingham.

In the final, Donna had to recover from a 1-set down deficit against Johanna Konta that was the overwhelming favorite to win this title. After losing the first set 6-2, Vekic won the second set at the breaker, and she conquered the decisive break in the third set in the 11th game (6-5). Eventually, the Croatian won the final 2-6 7-6 (3) 7-5 after scoring the same amount of point as Jo (104).

I kept my focus. VEKIC

After the match, Donna commented

“It’s pretty amazing, and I’m really, really happy. Jo played amazing, and she’s having an amazing year, but I was just trying to focus on myself, serve and good as I can and be aggressive, which is not easy against her. Wimbledon is my favorite tournament of the year, and I’m very happy that I can go into that winning a couple of matches, but first, next week is Birmingham!

I was a little bit mentally tired from the match yesterday, but physically I was feeling really good. This is something I’ve been dreaming of since I won my last title, there’s no way to describe it, and it’s something that keeps me motivated to work even harder.”

There is no much time to celebrate as Donna will now head to Birmingham where she will face Alison Riske in the opener.
