Grigor Dimitrov marked his comeback with a straight-sets win against Pablo Carreño Busta at the Brisbane International. The Bulgarian secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory, his second match since Wimbledon last year, showing sharp form despite the challenges he faced in 2025.
Emotional reflections on his journey
Speaking after the match, Dimitrov expressed gratitude for being back on court. “Oh wonderful. It’s so good to see you guys. Starting the year here is always very special for me. It’s been a bit of a rough go but I’m just grateful. That’s about it. These months have been very difficult in terms of preparation, mentality… my body.. just so much I had to go through. Just to be able to compete again today is already a success. Of course winning is just an added bonus right now. I’m feeling good. Little by little let’s see where we go,” he said.
Humbled by support
Dimitrov also highlighted the importance of the fans and the atmosphere. “It’s all worth it. I’m telling you.. it’s all worth it. Even just coming into the stadium let alone coming to play in front of you guys. With each year that’s passing by I feel more and more humbled with the support I get all around the world,” he added.
