Simona Halep didn’t manage to win the title in Rome after she was defeated in the final by Elina Svitolina, but she is getting closer and closer to the top of the rankings. Still ranked no.4, the Romanian is just 320 points from world no.2 Serena Williams and 310 points from world no.3 Karolina Pliskova.

Garbine had to withdraw in the Rome semifinal against Svitolina, but reaching the final 4 allowed her to gain 2 places in the rankings and be the new world no.4. The Spaniard will have lots of points to defend at the upcoming Roland Garros as she is the 2016 champion.
