Murray: “Slams do not need Sharapova”

Andy Murray has always been against giving wild cards to Sharapova following her 15 months’ ban.

The Russian beauty provided a great coverage for the Stuttgart tournament after the organization granted her a controversial wild card. The press flew from all over the world to witness the “great” comeback and other tournaments such as Madrid and Rome will try to take advantage of this.

The big question is if the slams need Sharapova to increase thier coverage. The Roland Garros will announce its decision on the 16th of May. Rumors say that the organization may give to the Russian a wild card only for playing the qualifications (she may not need it).

Murray: “Slams do not need Sharapova.”

During a recent interview, Andy Murray said that he doesn’t think that the Slams need an extra coverage from the Russian.

“Loads and loads of press went there to cover the event – whereas the Slams don’t need that coverage,” said Murray during an interview with the BBC.

“It probably doesn’t change their event much either way, so they have a different decision to make.

The French are going to make their decision soon. It looks like it is only going to be a matter of time before she is in the main competition by right anyway, based on how she played last week.

There is no rule stopping them. But, there is something to be said for working your way back up. In reality, it’s not a six-month or 12-month process. The tournaments are going to do what is best for their event.”

Murray is currently getting ready to play the ATP1000 in Madrid.
