Serena Williams was treated much better than Kyrgios after US Open meltdown. PUNDIT

Petchey is questioning if there is a disparity of treatment between Serena Williams and Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios and Serena Williams

Nick Kyrgios was slapped with a massive $113.000 fine after hitting a new low in Cincinnati when he was facing Karen Khachanov. The erratic Australian was almost unstoppable during his meltdown to repeatedly insult the umpire Fergus Murphy (full see article).

Eventually, Kyrgios received this massive fine, but Amazon Prime analyst Mark Petchey was wondering if there is a disparity about how the Australian is treated compared to what happened to Serena Williams after the epic meltdown she had last year during the US Open final.

Petchey commented:

“He has been fined $113,000. It is an awful lot of money.

Let’s go back to Serena Williams at the US Open last year and the negative press that generated. She had prior at the US Open from 2009 and only an $82,500 fine there. That was reduced on good behaviour.

Nick has not been given that opportunity. And of course, Serena fined only $17,000. So you do have to question whether Nick is getting punished consistently with respect to everyone else out there.”

TREATED DIFFERENTLY?
