Why I liked growing behind Federer. WAWRINKA

Even if Stan Wawrinka is currently the Swiss no.1, he is well aware that Roger Federer has always had a bigger appeal that everyone else especially in Switzerland. By some people, Stan has been considered a sort of “2nd brand Roger” until he started to win serious tournaments such as three slams (and you can’t get any more serious than that), 1 ATP1000 (Montecarlo beating Roger in the final),  the gold medal at the Olympics, and the Davis Cup.

About growing up behind Roger

During the post-match interview in Indian Wells after he defeated Thiem in the quarters, Stan expressed his feelings about his relationship with Roger

“I always try to look at the positive for a situation. I think growing up behind Roger; it doesn’t matter how you want to call it, it was great for me.” He commented.

“He is the best player ever No. 1 player. I shared some amazing moments at Davis Cup, Olympics, a lot of practice experience. So, it helped me a lot to make me the player I am now.

We have a great relationship. He’s a great friend. We always enjoy being on tour in the same tournament.

I’m really happy with my career. I won three Grand Slams last three years. I think it’s more than what I could expect. I also know that all I want is to win tournaments and I’m trying to do that.”

Stan will face Pablo Carreno-Busta in the Indian Wells semi-final. If he wins, he may face his dear Friend Roger in the final. That would be great.
