Andy Murray has finally managed to become the deserving world no.1 at the end of last season after a long chase. The Briton is opening up a nice gap between his and the world no.2 Novak Djokovic, and this gap will definitely get wider after Indian Wells and Miami as Nole needs to defend 2000pts (Andy only 90).

My ranking is not the priority. MURRAY

During a recent interview in Indian Wells, Andy explained what is now his primary target to comment

“I’m not thinking about rankings, I’m thinking about trying to win tournaments. At the end of last year, I was aware of each match that was being played that I was getting closer and closer to getting there [to world No 1], but now that I’m there, I’d like to stay, but I’m not concentrating on my lead at the top of the rankings.

When we start the new season on January 1st, it’s back to square one again, and I’m still behind Roger, Rafa, Dimitrov, I think Tsonga is also ahead of me and a couple of others. So, I’ve got some work to do this year and hopefully I can keep building on last week.”

Andy will face either Pospisil or Lu in the opener in Indian Wells. He has never managed to win the event so far. His best result was when he reached the final in 2009 before losing to Rafael Nadal 6-1 6-2.
