Dominic Thiem and Pablo Carreno Busta will play the final in Rio de Janeiro.
Thiem
Dominic is finally finding his way after a not so great start of the year. The Austrian has already played six tournaments without achieving anything meaningful besides reaching this final in Rio. Dominic hasn’t dropped a single set during the week, and he was in full control of the semi-final against Albert Ramos-Vinolas to win 6-1 6-4.
Dominic is elated with his performance in the first tournament of the year on his favorite surface (clay) to comment
“I’m really happy this week. I raised my game with every match. I’m happy to be back on clay in general, and I honestly didn’t expect the transition to go so fast. I think I’m a better player than I was last year, so we’ll see how the final will go tomorrow.”
Carreno-Busta
This is one of the best moments of Pablos’ career. The Spaniard has just won the title in Rio in doubles with Cuevas, and now he has a shot at winning his first ATP500 of his career. Pablo had to recover from a desperate situation against new tennis sensation Casper Ruud to win the match after being 2-6 2-4 down. From that moment, the Spaniard won 11 games (of 12) to clinch the win 2-6 7-5 6-0.
The final
Dominic has a 3-0 win-loss record against Pablo, but he has always dropped a set during their matches. Still, the Austrian is the hot favorite to win the final.
