Can you believe it? Serena and Venus Williams will play each other in the Australian Open final. Let’s see how did they get there.
Venus
The oldest sister had to face a sticky Coco Vandeweghe in the semi-final to win 6-7 (3) 6-2 6-3. After losing the opener in the tiebreak, Venus managed to win five consecutive games in the second set to grab a decisive 5-1 lead from 0-1. Even if Venus broke Coco in the very first game of the decider, the third set was extremely tense till the last game when the veteran clinched another break to win the contest after 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Venus was overcome by the emotions after she reached the final in Melbourne after 14 years to comment
“It means so much to me, mostly because she played so well. She played so unbelievable, and I had to play defense the whole time, it feels like.
There was never a moment of relaxation ever, so to be able to get to the final through a match like this… I’m excited about American tennis!”

Serena
The youngest sister didn’t struggle much against a surprising Marjana Lucic-Baroni to defeat the Croatian 6-2 6-1 in a match whose finale was clear from the very beginning. In fact, after Marjana held her serve in the first game, Serena won the next 5 to clinch the opener in just 20 minutes. The second set was pretty similar: after the Croatian won the first game on her serve, Serena won the following six.
After the match, Serena commented, “No matter what happens we’ve won…a Williams is going to win this tournament.”

Head to head
Serena leads Venus 16-11, 9-8 on hard courts. The young sister is the favorite to win her 23rd major and regain the world no.1 rank unless she struggles to be tough with her beloved Venus.
