Nick Kyrgios reveals that he is finally starting to feel and behave like a "normal" tennis player.

Kyrgios in Washington

Nick Kyrgios has just won an inspiring title in Washington after defeating the likes of Stefanos Tsitispas and Daniil Medvedev in the last 2 matches.

Even if the Australian could not refrain from having his weird behavior, he looked to be much less “hostile” against the crowd and definitely more focus comparing to his standards. Still, Nick had his own moments like when he threw a bottle at the chair of the umpire or when at the end of his matches he was asking the crowd where he should serve, but this time his quirks looked a bit more acceptable.

After winning the title in DC, Nick revealed

“I just wanted to clean myself up and have healthier habits. It’s only the beginning, and it showed this week by winning this tournament. I feel like I’ve made major strides. I’m just going to take it one day at a time, and hopefully, I can continue on this new path.

I just had a lot of unhealthy habits, and it was starting to show on the tennis court. It wasn’t healthy. So I just needed to change a lot of things.

Just looking back at some of the places I’ve been in the last six months, it’s crazy to think how much I’ve turned it around. I’ve just been working really hard on and off the court to try and be better as a person and as a tennis player.

After losing the final, Daniil was extremely gracious in defeat especially during his speech to comment: “We all know how Nick can play when he wants to, and this week I think he wanted to play.”

Nick will now head to Montreal for the Rogers Cup. This will be an important moment for him to demonstrate that he has improved from a mental point of view. In fact, in the past, he struggled a lot to keep his focus after winning a title. This will be an important occasion for him.
