Andy Murray is the King of 2016!
The Brit defeated Novak Djokovic in the London final in a match that also decided who would have been the world no.1 for the year-end.
Eventually, even if Murray had to play lots of tennis during the week ( 3 hours than Djokovic), the Brit found the drive and the energy to dismantle Nole in 1 hour and 43 minutes (6-3 6-4).
Andy won the opening set after achieving the decisive break in the 8th game (5-3). Things were even smoother for the Brit in the second set after Andy grabbed a 4-1 (and two breaks up) lead. Djokovic tried to put some resistance to get back one break from Murray in the 6th game (4-2), but it was too late for him. Andy held the following two service games to win the tournament.
It’s very special. MURRAY
After the match, an elated Andy Murray commented
“I’m very happy to win and to be world number one is very special. It’s very special playing against Novak in a match like this.”
Andy is the best player in the world. DJOKOVIC
Nole was once again gracious in defeat to comment
“Andy is definitely number one in the world. He deserved to win. He is the best player. In the decisive moments, I wasn’t able to come back. I played better late in the match, but it wasn’t enough.”
We couldn’t have a more thrilling finale. Fantastic!
