Monfils retires from the World Tour Finals

Gael Monfils must retire from the World Tour Finals because of a rib injury.

The Frenchman hasn’t been at his very best during the entire week to lose both matches against Thiem and Raonic. Gael had to play Djokovic in the 3rd match, but he decided to quit.

Gael explained why he had to retire.

“I still feel worse and worse on my ribs. I couldn’t practice today. I’m very happy and honoured to be here in the top 8. It’s the greatest season I’ve ever done. You work so hard to be here. I’m disappointed but it will give me more strength next year.”

Monfils will be replaced by David Goffin.
