Murray survives Verdasco in rough opener

Andy Murray had a rather tricky start of his Paris campaign against Fernando Verdasco. The world no.2 managed to win the match only after he broke the Spaniard in the very last game of the decider at love. The final result was 6-3 6-7 (5) 7-5, and the match ended after 2 hours and 28 minutes.

Andy is still chasing the world no.1 rank; the Brit can dethrone Djokovic if he wins the tournament and Novak doesn;t reach the final.

I was stronger at the end. MURRAY

Even if Andy wasn’t elated with his tennis, the Brit was still happy with his performance at the end of the encounter. Murray commented

“It wasn’t the best match from my side. I got through it. I will play better tomorrow. I didn’t necessarily feel comfortable out there, but I feel like the way the two of us finished the match, I was stronger at the end of the last game when I had my chance.”

Next vs. Pouille

Murray will play Lucas Pouille in the 3rd round. The head to head is 2-0 for the Brit that has never conceded more than three games to the Frenchman. Their last match was just a few weeks ago in Shanghai where Murray won 6-1 6-3.
