Kuznetsova first to qualify for the Singapore semifinal

Svetlana Kuznetsova can’t stop making an impression in Singapore.

The Russian was the last one to qualify for the finals after a rough week in Russia to fly then to Singapore over the weekend and stun Agnieszka Radwanska and Karolina Pliskova in 2 marathons.

In the match against Karolina Pliskova, Svetlana looked overtired at the end of the 3rd set when she lost three consecutive games (from 5-3 to 5-6). Eventually, she broke Pliskova in the 12th game to bring the match to the decisive breaker where the drama went on. In fact, the Russian was unable to convert two consecutive match points when she was leading 6-4, and the tiebreak went to a thrilling 6-all scoreline. Finally, the world no.9 conquered the last two points to win the match 3-6 6-2 7-6 (6).

After the match, Kuznetsova commented

“After my journey here, and all the support of the fans and my team, I couldn’t let everybody down. It’s from my heart. I have not been at my best these past years, but something just changed this year.

I enjoy my game, I enjoy the crowd, I’m playing against the best players in the world, and I really appreciate and am blessed to be here today.”

Svetlana has now qualified to the semifinal.
