Kuznetsova beats Radwanska in epic after saving a match point

Svetlana Kuznetsova is the new wonder woman of tennis. Last Saturday the Russian won the title in Moscow to qualify for Singapore, and after two days she conquered a 2 hours and 40 minutes’ battle against Agnieszka Radwanska in the city-state.

The Russian impressed for her tenacity for the entire match. In the first set, Svetlana recovered a 4-1 deficit to win 7-5. After crumbling in the 2nd set (6-1 for Radwanska), there was a strong possibility that Kuznetsova would have fallen apart for tiredness. Eventually, the world n.9 found her strengths to save a match point when Radwanska was serving for the match (5-4), and she won the encounter 7-5 1-6 7-5.

I just had to fight.

After the match, Svetlana commented

“Sometimes it’s not easy, and sometimes you’re pulling through. I put aside that I’m tired, put aside the emotions, the jet lag – I didn’t want to think about it. We came here to fight, let’s put everything else to one side.”

After this win, Svetlana leads the white group with Kristina Pliskova, and she pockets $153,000.
