Jannik Sinner, the world number one tennis player, has accepted a three-month ban from tennis after admitting to partial responsibility for team mistakes that led to him testing positive for traces of the banned substance clostebol. The suspension, which runs from February 9 to May 4, means Sinner will miss several key tournaments, including the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, and Monte Carlo Masters. As a result, he is set to drop a total of 2100 ranking points.
The doping case began last March when Sinner tested positive for clostebol twice. Initially, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) cleared him of any wrongdoing, but the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the decision. After negotiations, Sinner agreed to the three-month suspension to resolve the case.
Despite the setback, Sinner remains optimistic about his future in tennis. He will be able to return to training in mid-April and is expected to compete in the Italian Open in Rome, just before the French Open. Sinner has expressed his commitment to ensuring such mistakes do not happen again and has thanked his fans for their support during this challenging time.
The suspension marks a significant moment in Sinner’s career, but with his determination and resilience, he is poised to make a strong comeback and continue his journey as one of the top players in men’s tennis.
Sinner will drop 2100 points in the next three months (500 on Monday already) and and arrive Rome with 9730.
Zverev or Alcaraz will still need very strong weeks to have a shot on world #1.
