Pouille upsets Nadal after epic

Luca Pouille wins the most important match of his life at the US Open.

The world no. 25th had the tricky task of playing a rejuvenated Rafael Nadal in the US Open 4th round, and he came out in style after winning 6-1 2-6 6-4 3-6 7-6 (6). The key moment was the final set breaker when Lucas struggled to convert three match points. Eventually, it was Nadal that on a 6-all scoreline missed a simple forehand to give a fourth match point to his opponent. Pouille didn’t disappoint this time to win the match with a forehand down the line.

This match can change my career. POUILLE

Lucas thinks that this win can help his future

“Maybe it will change my career, but I will see. It will give me a lot of confidence for the next round, for the rest of the season. But now I have one more match to play again, so we’ll see after the tournament.”

I am almost 100%. NADAL

Rafael wasn’t too much upset for the loss as he thinks that he is almost back to a perfect condition

“There were things I could do better. Had the right attitude. I [fought] right up to the last ball. But I need something else. I need something more that was not there today.

My wrist is improving a lot. The injury is at the end of the process. I am ready to keep playing. That’s what my body is asking me now.”

Next vs. Monfils

Lucas will play Gael Monfils in the next round. The head to head is 1-0 for Gael that defeated Pouille in a rough five setters in the 2015 Australian Open. In that occasion, Monfils recovered a 0-2 sets deficit.
