INCREDIBLE UPSET. Djokovic crashes out from Wimbledon

At the beginning of this Wimbledon, we have stressed the fact that Novak Djokovic had an extremely tough draw, but we didn’t think that he would have capitulated in the 3rd round to (a fantastic) Sam Querrey.

Djokovic started the match against the American in the worst possible way to be immediately two sets down before the encounter was suspended because of the rain. The world no.1 tried to fight back the day after, and after winning the 3rd set, he had the opportunity to serve out the 4th set (5-4). Eventually, Novak was broken (he lost the serve with a terrible volley), and he wasted a 3-1 lead in the breaker before losing the match 7-6 (6) 6-1 3-6 7-6 (5).

Winning the first breaker was key. QUERREY

Sam was ecstatic after this great win to comment “I’m not going to lie and say going into it I thought I was going to win. But I think as the match progressed, I was serving well and holding in the first set, we were kind of going back and forth, I gained a little more confidence with every game.

We got to that tiebreaker, and I played a great tiebreaker. Once I won that, I was like in my head, ‘All right, I can beat this guy, I can hang with him and turn this into a match.’”

Next vs. Mahut

Sam will play grass specialist Nicholas Mahut for a place in the quarters. The head to head is 2-0 for the Frenchman that has recently defeated Sam at the Topshelf Open 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-4.
